Bronze Sculpture of Putti on Tortoise

This is a stunning emotive abstracted sculpture of a kneeling antelope that is crafted in bronze and signed by the artist , Barbara Beretich (1936 - 2018), on the bottom. The sculpture is beautifully cast with fine detail and patina. During Beretich's younger years in California, her family raised multiple animals including hogs, cows, sheep and horses. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a BA in art, Beretich spent time in Europe where she met and became lifelong friends with the French artist, Francoise Gilot. This is a charming painting of a cherub with an arm extending forward, perhaps hold out a bouquet of flowers. The painting dates to the mid-18th century and is probably cut from a larger painting. The putti is well-framed in a French a gold leafed neoclassical-style. Considering the quality of this painting, and although not signed, the painting was most probably painted by a recognized Italian 18th century artist.
