About the Item

Sculpture has long been revered as one of the purest means of expressing artistic thought and feeling. An art form that transforms materiality and space, capturing an ephemeral moment in the permanence of metal, marble, or clay. This bronze of a child playing with a rope, mounted on a square black lacquer wood base and signed by Curtis Jere. The embossed brass free forms at the base of the sculpture contrast with the darker patina of the bronze, acting as a spotlight that also shows the signature. The sculpture unfolds a body in motion. The child, standing on tiptoe, grasps a rope with an intensity that suggests a suspended movement. Far from being a simple frozen model, the piece is infused with palpable action, its dynamism perfectly captured in bronze. Curtis Jere is a metalwork artist who creates wall sculptures and household accessories. Curtis Jere is a compound nom-de-plume of artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels who combined parts of their own names to create the C. Jeré signature. C. Jeré works range from representational to highly abstract. Some of the older techniques, such as enameling, using resin and bronze, haven't been used in decades.
