An early 20th century French bronze figure of a young boy on a toboggan

About the Item

This charming early 20th century bronze figure depicts a young boy in winter clothes lying on his toboggan. The figure is likely to be French in origin although it doesn't have either a signature or foundary mark so difficult to be absolutely sure but this is typical of the types of works produced in France during the early years of the 20th century. The figure was previously in a private collection in London. The toboggan is realised in gilded bronze and then in turn this is mounted on a small slab of brown quartz marble which is used to suitably dramatic effect giving the overall impression of real terrain. In terms of condition, the piece is in great antique condition. The bronze figure has a brown patination and there is some light wear to this on the high points. The gilded bronze toboggan has some minor wear in isolated areas. The marble base in unpolished to the edges although the flat surface is polished giving the feel that the toboggan could glide across it. There is no restoration and the piece is in completely original condition. The piece works either an an independent work of art or would be well placed on a desk to keep a stack of papers in order. The overall measurements of the piece are 20cm wide, 10cm deep and 10cm high.
