Fine Napoleonic Antique French Empire Cabinet Bronze Officer Twisting Mustache

About the Item

A debonair French Napoleonic era patinated bronze high ranking officer in full regalia leans against a gnarled tree trunk while twisting his handsome mustache in this delightful and unusual cabinet sculpture. This piece dates from the early 19th century and is superbly detailed, showing every button on his supple boots, each fold of his attractive waistcoat , military backpack, flag, cannon ball at his feet, sword and bicorne hat. The bicorne hat first became widely used in the 1790's and most generals and officers from the Napoleonic period wore this style. The alluring gesture of twisting the mustache is associated with male virility and sexual attraction- having succeeded on the battlefield, our general looks forward to success with the ladies. Patina: original, medium to deep brown Condition: Very Good, sword at the back is slightly bent with a minute fissure, perhaps from battle Height: 8 inches Width: 4 inches Depth: 3 inches A fabulous bronze for the library or cabinet and a wonderfully rare collector's piece for Napoleonic military subjects.
