About the Item
A fine quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and patinated bronze signed J. Gautherin. The statue is raised by a circular mottled patinated bronze base where a stamp of the bronzier is visible of an anchor with his initials PB. Above is the elegant young maiden dressed in a classical dress and blouse. She is carrying a water jug on her shoulder. Wonderfully executed with fine details throughout.

Jean Gautherin
Jean Gautherin was a renowned Parisian sculptor. He entered the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and quickly began winning medals for his works in 1868, 1870 and 1873. Gautherin obtained the very prestigious French Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur medal in 1878. Various works by Gautherin can be seen in museums in Bordeaux, Nancy and Paris.
