About the Item

An oversized pair of French carved wooden Pots à Feu (fire pots) from the 19th century, with upper flames and fluted vases. Created in France during the 19th century, this pair of Pots à Feu (translating as fire pots, fire urns in English) brings us back to the Classical tradition. Think Versailles and its façade adorned with a regular rhythm of such pots. Our pair is made of wood and shows traces of paint. Each pot features a wavy flame stemming from the top. The pot itself is made of a domed upper section, accented with waterleaves on the edge. The tapering lines are then decorated with fluted motifs followed by gadroons. The ensemble is mounted on a flaring cylindrical base measuring 12.5 inches of diameter. With their great proportions and Classical influence, this pair of French carved wooden Pots à Feu from the 19th century will make for a wonderful decorative addition to any home, particularly placed under a covered patio to anchor an entryway.
