A sensational and large scale French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze statue of Diana the Huntress, signed by Barbedienne. Diana dressed in classical attire and is reaching behind her shoulder to get a bow out her quiver.Her other hand is holding the deer besides her. She is raised by a thick and impressive circular mottled base. Exquisitely detailed with wonderful and rich patina throughout. In Roman mythology, Diana was the goddess of the hunt. Daughter of Jupiter and Latona, She is often portrayed with a bow and arrow and accompanied either by a deer or hounds. Diana was the goddess of both wild and domestic animals.
