About the Item

Glazed in the gorgeous, brilliant glazes characteristic of the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshop), and adopting a long, lean, almost Mannerist pose, this lovely sculpture of a mother and child dates to the early years of the 20th century. Many sculptors and artists of the school, such as Vally Wieselthier and Michael Powolny, adopted a vibrant color palette highlighted by oranges, turquoise blue, and gold, and their ceramic pieces were widely collected and influential in Europe and beyond. This piece is signed, but the signature is difficult to decipher.
