About the Item
A pair of Italian carved wooden pots à feu (fire urn) fragment sculptures from the 19th century, mounted on modern square shaped lucite bases. Created in Italy during the 19th century, each of this pair of wooden sculptures depicts a pot à feu, an architectural motif particularly praised during Classical times. Bursting from a gadrooned urn, the flame seems to be reaching for the sky. These urns, showcasing carved scoop motifs as well, are resting on Ionic style bases. Their dark brown patina with nicely weathered appearance reveal their age. These fragments have been mounted on square shaped lucite bases that provide greater stability, and whose transparent quality does not take away from the object itself. With their skillfully hand-carved décor, dark patina and petite proportions, this pair of Italian 19th century pots à feu sculptures on modern lucite bases will make for a lovely addition to any home, perhaps displayed atop a console table or chest-of-drawers.
