Pair of 19th Century French Bronze Cherubs on Marble Base

About the Item

A pair of cast bronze cherubs or putti standing contrapposto on a square red marble base, France, circa late 1800s. Note: These charming cherubic figures were probably used in combination with candelabras based on the markings on the backs of each and on the upraised hands of both figures that would indicate that they had mechanical attachments at one time. Label on the shoulder of one cherub indicates that it was vetted by the association of antiquities in England and declared to be over 100 years old, probably for customs purposes. Measures: 6 1/2" wide x 6 1/2" deep x 16 1/2" high.

Condition:

Repaired: Arm was repaired at some point. A fracture is visible as well as bronze plugs that were used to make a cold repair. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. Minor fading. Patina has faded in some areas but not in a significant way.
