Sculpture "Memoria" in Patinated Bronze, Signed Emile Louis Picault
About the Item
Figure "Memoria" in bronze with brown and green shaded patina signed Emile Louis Picault. It represents a young woman seated, dressed in a drapery, holding a brush in one hand and pages with the words "j'évoque du passé les heures radieuses" in the other. Behind her, the bronze is treated as a rock decorated with oak leaves and the inscription "the heart remembers". This composition, in which the female figure emerges from the frame, gives a feeling of movement and great elegance to the whole. The sculpture is signed E. PIcault on the side of the terrace and stamped "Vrai bronze garanti Paris" by the founder on the back.
Emile Louis PICAULT (1833-1915) was a French sculptor known for his allegories accompanied by Latin or French phrases. He was a regular figure at the Salon from 1863. He received an honourable mention in 1883. His abundant work was published in bronze for private customers. Some of his sculptures can be found in the museums of Fine Arts in Chambéry and Troyes.
