The present charming statuette of Peter Pan, dated 1913, is an exceptionally fine and early reduction of the life-size bronze exhibited by Frampton at the Royal Academy in 1911. Barrie unveiled the statue in Kensington Gardens on 30 April 1912, without fanfare and without permission, so that it might appear to children that the fairies had put it in place overnight. He published a notice in The Times newspaper the following day, 1 May: "There is a surprise in store for the children who go to Kensington Gardens to feed the ducks in the Serpentine this morning. Down by the little bay on the south-western side of the tail of the Serpentine they will find a May-day gift by Mr J.M. Barrie, a figure of Peter Pan blowing his pipe on the stump of a tree, with fairies and mice and squirrels all around. It is the work of Sir George Frampton...

No human being, however great, or powerful, was ever so free as a fish – John Ruskin, Picture Quotes. Just look at this magnificent cast bronze bowl sculpture with fish design created by John Forsythe. A decorative bowl comprised of a cast bronze water whirlpool with swimming fish caught in the spinning currents, their half bodies and patinated green tails distending from the swirling water and a fish tail protruding from the exterior base of the bowl. You feel the struggle of trying to stay above water and complete your journey. Surrounded by a cast bronze rim trimmed with shiny green bubbles or fish eggs as to represent salmon and their spawning. Salmon lay an enormous number of eggs because they face a lot of adversity on their journey to becoming an adult, and while we aren’t sure these fish are in fact salmon, it certainly speaks to the realities of the course of life. This is a unique bronze piece, not editioned, by Marchello Mascherini of a seated figure on a stool playing a guitar. One may interpret the figure as singing as his mouth is open. The figure and the guitar blend and become one in areas, creating ambiguity of definition in the piece. The patina is a deep chocolate brown. The base of the sculpture is marble and measures 3.25" X 3.25". The original tag is still present on the underside of the base, but has faded and is not completely legible. It is signed "M. Mascherini" on one of the legs of the stool. This is definitely a piece worthy of joining any art collection.
Marchello Mascherini was born in Udine, Italy, in 1906. He moved to Isernia, the central-southern region of Molise, where he first began learning about sculpture in the local workshops of the area. He finished his education at the Regia Scuola d’arte and moved on to the Istituto Industriale “Alessandro Volta” in the spring of 1921 focussing on ornamental sculpture.

A superb Modernist model of a Gazelle by Walter Rotan (1912-2001) with a very dark verdigris patina.
Cast at the Roman Bronze Works in the 1930s or 1940s.
The bronze is stamped Roman Bronze Corp. NY to the reverse and bears an integral signature in the plinth.
Rotan was an important 20th century American sculptor. A student of Albert Laessle, Rotan's work is held in public and private collections throughout the country. During his lifetime, his work was exhibited in the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Art.
A similar gazelle is incorporated into his sculpture installed at Brookgreen Gardens.

A Bronze Wall Sculpture of a Bomber Jacket by Scott Hanson

A unique patinated bronze sculpture in the form of a 1940's leather bomber jacket hanging on a wall mounted coat rack. The 1940's bomber jacket. It is one of the few items that has really transcended both fashion and trends. People are wearing these jackets today in the same way they have for the last six decades. It's a symbol of freedom, of the rebel in us, or a certain kind of social stigma, a certain attitude.
Hanson chooses to isolate and immortalize a man's leather jacket. The choice becomes a comment on the power in our culture of image per se. A comment on the ascendance of personal style and image, via our possessions and fashion, to a consuming culture value. Seemingly casually tossed over a hook, yet frozen there in bronze, the jacket evokes an entire range of masculine stereotypes celebrated by the media-cowboys, mavericks and rebels of our time. The open road, macho bravado, rugged individuality, sex appeal. Yet the presence of this lone jacket equally evokes the very personal, if anonymous, history of its wearer. Like the cast-form-life sculpture of George Segal, it expresses mystery, even poignancy, of its owners absence. As in much of Hanson's art, this culture manages both to critique and also to value such material icons of our culture.
