About the Item

Sculptural 18th century Italian hand-carved leaf fragment mounted on a formation of pyrite in a magnetite matrix and adorned with natural-forming baroque pearls. The fragment artifact originally came from Tuscany, Italy. The magnetite matrix emulates the color of the fragment and the gold pyrite coordinates with the gilded aspects of the fragment. The baroque pearls also imitate the giltwood parts of the leaf. The fragment has been collected, preserved, and transformed by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and founder of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and the period shows that the fragment artifact is originally 18th century. Together, the organic specimens and the figurative, historical fragment create a sculptural work of art.
