Madagascar Septarian Calcite half nodule mounted on a custom acrylic base
About the Item
Septarian Calcite Half Nodule
Madagascar
Mounted on Custom Acrylic Base
This polished half-nodule reveals the striking internal structure of a Septarian concretion from Madagascar, composed primarily of golden calcite, aragonite, and sedimentary matrix. Formed over millions of years, septarian nodules are the result of volcanic activity and mineral sedimentation, with internal cracking patterns (called “septaria”) filled in by secondary crystal growth.
This particular specimen displays a rich mosaic of honey-colored calcite veins against an earthy, cracked matrix—offering a compelling visual contrast between crystalline geometry and organic formation. The half-nodule has been expertly cut and polished to highlight these natural patterns, creating a sculptural cross-section of deep geological time.
Mounted on a custom-designed clear acrylic base, the piece achieves a clean, floating presentation that emphasizes its symmetry and texture. Equal parts natural history specimen and contemporary object, it is ideal for collectors, interior spaces, or educational displays exploring the intersection of art and Earth science.
