This large, glazed, dust-pressed tile depicts a highly detailed architectural panel with an eagle circled by a foliage wreath between ornate column supports, the sepia tones used to create a sense of shadow and depth. Dating from the late 19th century, this antique Minton tile has stood the test of time, making it a brilliant collector’s piece. Minton & Co. To this day, Minton & Co. are considered one of the major pottery and porcelain manufacturers of British history. Established in 1793, the company was founded by Thomas Minton (1765 – 1836) in Stoke-on-Trent. Until 1845, the pottery manufacturers traded under various styles before adopting the ‘Minton’ name. When Thomas Minton died, the business passed to his son, Herbert (1793 – 1858) who expanded business by entering into partnership with Michael Hollins. The ‘Minton & Co.’ name was dedicated to encaustic and inlaid tiles while the ‘Minton, Hollins & Co.’ partnership was for printed, painted or majolica wall tiles. Minton exhibited at trade exhibitions across the globe, establishing a firm reputation for excellence in pottery and earthenware.

Located in Garnerville, NY
American terra-cotta Beaux Arts architectural block tile. The academic architectural style taught at the Ecole des Beaux Arts incorporates French Neo-classicism with Renaissance and Baroque elements. This architectural piece is made of cast white glazed terra-cotta. Exquisitely detailed scroll and leaf pattern that can function incorporated into a building facade or a garden element. Good overall condition with some chips and overall crazing to the glaze, but structurally sound and sturdy. No structural cracks to compromise the integrity of the block tile. One of two architectural tiles offered here. This piece was found in the garden of a mansion in Poughkeepsie, NY. The tile came off of a building in downtown NYC...
