About the Item
18th century Italian candlestick base with agatized coral on a polished agate base.
The 18th century hand carved, painted, and gold-leafed candlestick is originally from Tuscany. The polished agate coral coordinates exactly with the 18th century fragment in texture and color. Agate coral is Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when coral is gradually replaced with agate. There are also polished details accessorizing the piece.
The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian candlestick base is originally, 18th century.
The Italian church candlestick artifact, agate coral, and agate slab are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
