Set of 17th Century Italian 'Florence Fragments' with Free-Formed Copper

About the Item

A set of three coordinating 17th century Italian 'Florence Fragments' all topped with varying collections of selenite rock crystal and naturally free-forming copper. These fragments are each from a church in Florence. They were found and saved from the historic Florence Flood of 1966. They are part of the The Florence Fragment Collection which exhibited with Museo de’ Medici in Florence, Italy this fall. This is a collection of historical fragment artifacts saved from the infamous Florence flooding of the Arno River in 1966 which was the worst flood the city had faced since the Renaissance. There is still the original paint and silt left on the pieces to uphold the integrity, craftsmanship, and history of sculptural fragments. The fragments have been preserved and transformed with the crystal and copper to create sculptural works of art. The pieces are put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the pieces and the period shows that the fragments are originally 18th century. The story and history of these piece and Interi's collection of Florence fragments, in particular, are very interesting. While many fragments are distressed due to age, these Florence fragments in particular stand apart. They symbolize a history that has been carried through the flood, to the Italian store house, collected by the Interi studio, shown in the museum, and now can be purchased for the modern home or gallery.
