Echizen Ware Edo Period Jar Tsubo Vase Pottery Japanese Wabi Sabi Ash Glaze

About the Item

Antique Edo period Echizen kilns tsubo jar, circa 17th/18th century. Coil built with reddish iron oxide clay and buff colored ash glaze. Large Echizen jars were famous in their time for being sturdy and waterproof. They are prized today for the slightly asymmetrical coil built forms and serendipitous ash glaze embodying the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. 15" high. 13" diameter. Bruise at mouthrim rim, as shown.
