English Antique Regency Period Copper Hot Water Urn (Samovar)

About the Item

A very fine and decorative ca. 1810 footed hot water urn of dark patinated copper, with wonderful sculptural details in the manner of Wedgwood ceramics of the same period. A golden putto serves as the handle for the two part lid... a small opening in the center twists open to allow fresh embers to be added to keep the water hot, without taking off the whole lid. A trap door in the base allowed ash to be removed. This piece is very unusual for being an all copper body. Good antique condition, with some signs of age and use, slight undulations to the edge of the lid. H: 20 3/4 W: 10 1/2 D: 13
