Pair Large Majolica Seashell Centerpieces With Mermaid Caryatids, after Minton

About the Item

After a 19th century Minton majolica design, a fine of pair exuberantly formed vessels, richly colored in ochre, bright green, light blue and red, the tails of the mermaids intertwine around the base of the composition. The seashell is multihued and glistens with the light catching on the many radiating ribs. These is are fine stand alone pieces that can also serve as vases or cachepots. Overall very good condition, typical firing irregularities, normal craquelure to the glazes. Probably Italian or Portuguese, 20th Century, very closely modeled on the Minton original with slight changes: brighter coloring over all and modifications to the way the tails wrap around the base. No marks. 21.75ʺW × 7.25ʺD × 12.75ʺH
