Fine English Regency Period Bird’s Eye Maple Marquetry Box

About the Item

A very fine and exquisitely grained bird’s eye maple box of unusual form: the top curved into three concave channels, each one inlaid with contrasting anthemion and rosette designs. The interior is lined in cream silk with blue marbleized paper under the lid. The four corners rest on bronze lion’s paw feet mounted with gilt acanthus flourishes. Ca. 1810. Very good antique condition with signs of age: shrinkage separations to the veneer, restoration to some edges. H: 4 ⅜ W: 10 ¼ 7 D: 7
