About the Item
A very fine George III Neo Classical Water or Tea Urn made in London in 1790 by Samuel Godbehere & Edward Wigan.
This very fine piece stands on a square pedestal platform with four ball feet. The foot is decorated with reeding and bright cut and prick dot bands. The vase shaped main body has bat wing fluted sides, which are engraved with bright cut floral garlands, as well as flower heads in ovals. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Crest, above the contemporary script initial B. The reeded loop side handles are attached to the main body with foliate mouldings. The high domed cover terminates in a Neo Classical urn finial and is engraved with a band of bright cut floral designs. The cast spout is decorated with reeding and displays a pretty shaped boxwood tap. The urn is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the foot. The cover is marked with the sterling mark and duty mark. A quite beautiful example of Neo Classical design.
