Good Pair of Gilded and Patinated Bronze, 19th Century Mantel Urns
About the Item
This fine pair of decorative mantel ewers or urns are French and were made, circa 1870. Cast in bronze the pair has been carefully patinated all-over then gilded in decorative areas creating a dramatic contrast between the dark patina and the highly reflective burnished gilded areas. The urns are then set up on solid black slate bases. The pair are from the design era where combinations or Renaissance and Greco-Roman and Assyrian themes were skillfully blended making a singular design. In the finest French tradition, the ewers have several separately cast parts all then attached and finished creating a seamless and crisp casting artfully presented.
