About the Item

Sculpted by Wheeler Williams, one of the masters of Art Deco sculpture in America, this unique covered urn features two stylized female nude figures representing Music and Dance, each expressed in bold relief. The urn is glazed in a lovely pale ivory color, and interestingly, the two female figures have a bisque, matte finish while the body of the piece is glossy. The lid of the urn is surmounted by a pinecone finial, and the body of the urn features two horn-like projections. Williams is best known for a set of monumental, free standing female nude figures representing the four seasons that are cousins to the figures here. The urn is clearly signed on the bottom.
