About the Item

A very handsome pair of French 19th century Renaissance st. ormolu and black Belgian marble ewers, attributed to Barbedienne. Each ewer is raised by a fine circular black Belgian marble base with a bottom ormolu fillet. The socle-shaped pedestals display most decorative spiral fluted designs and Coeur de Rai wrap-around designs. The bodies display intricately detailed classical figures, beautiful maidens, and fauns in an impressive satin and burnished furnish. The elegantly shaped necks display the same decorative spiral fluted designs with richly chased wrap-around oak leaf bands and square tapered handles. The finely detailed Bacchus' above are holding clusters of grapes above their spouts which are decorated with beautiful foliate designs. All original gilt throughout.
