Pair of French 19th century Bronze lidded urns, stamped P.H. Mourey

About the Item

A charming and high quality pair of French 19th century Renaissance st. patinated Bronze lidded urns, stamped P.H. Mourey. Each most handsome urn is raised by a round base with a beaded laurel band and foliate socle pedestal above. The bodies display most decorative spiral fluted patterns at the base below a band of circular reserves. At the mid section are charming richly chased patinated Bronze scenes of playful cherubs, musical instruments and goats. At each side are the richly detailed handles with berried floral movements leading up to the top rim of each urn. At the top are finely detailed patinated Bronze cherubs seated on the removable lids, edged with dentil patterns. The urns are also finished on the interior. Philippe H. Mourey (1840-1910) was a renowned French sculptor and bronze maker, best known for his exquisite works during the late 19th century. Mourey specialized in creating highly detailed and ornate bronze pieces, often collaborating with prominent clockmakers and furniture designers of the time. His works, blending Neoclassical and Renaissance styles, were frequently incorporated into decorative art, such as mantel clocks and luxury furnishings.
