An abstract "Ariel" glass vase, by Edvin Öhrström for Orrefors, Sweden, 1952

About the Item

A good and early Ariel glass vase, designed by Edvin Öhrström, made in 1952 at the Orrefors Glaswork in Sweden. Öhrström who studied sculpture in Stockholm and in Paris was one of the inventors of the Ariel technique at Orrefors in Sweden. A technique that shows figures and forms in the shape of pierced air-bubbles between the glass layers. This is a good example, with the similar model published in "Glas in Sweden 1915-1960", Helmut Ricke and Ullrich Gronert, Prestel, München, 1986, Fig. 228. It is signed and can be dated by the numbering engraved with the signature, which for this particular vase is 1709E.
