About the Item

Vintage cylindrical porcelain vase features a standing female figure from Bjørn Wiinblad's series for Rosenthal company, '1001 Nacht' (1001 Nights). Whimsical, colorful figures on deep-blue cobalt backgrounds with intricate gold detailing, depicted in 1001 Nights series, are some of the best known Wiinblad's designs for the company; the series is reflecting his masterful use of saturated, strong, almost psychedelic colors, that was characteristic of his work from the very beginning of his career. The vase is marked on the bottom with Rosenthal studio-linie logo and Bjørn Wiinblad's signature; it is in very good vintage condition and is ready to be displayed. Bjørn Wiinblad (1918-2006) was a significant Danish designer, ceramics artist, and painter. From 1946 he worked with Nymolle studio in Denmark, where his international career took off and he developed his beautiful line drawing style, and from 1957 - with German Rosenthal factory, creating glass and crystal plates and objects, as well as ceramics. He also designed wallpapers, textiles, sculptures, glasses, plates, even postal stamps, and worked in interior design, theater stage design, and book illustration. His works are represented in permanent collections of important museums around the world, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, MoMA in New York, and Stockholm's National Museum in Oslo.
