Charles Schneider / Le Verre Français - 'Fougères' Art Déco Cameo Glass Vase

About the Item

An elegant Art Déco cameo glass vase of baluster form with applied deep violet glass foot. The mottled white ground is textured and overlaid with mottled orange and green. It is then acid-etched and wheel carved with a highly stylised design of fern fronds. The design 'Fougères' was produced between 1927 to 1928. Inscribed signature "Le Verre Français" and "Charder" (A contraction of the makers name Charles Schneider) on the foot. Charles Schneider is considered a master of French Art Déco glass. He experimented endlessly and developed new techniques and colours never before seen in glass-making up until then. His Art Déco designs are strikingly beautiful. Schneider's reputation as an innovative glass maker earned him the title of 'Maître Verrier' (Master glass maker).
