Cranston Pottery Works Vase with the Tukan Pattern, English circa 1910

About the Item

A cranston art pottery early 20th c vase. This impressive and decorative vase was made at the Cranston Pottery Works and this decorative pattern is called Tukan. It has a large onion-like bulbous body that flows into a tall slender neck. The heavily glazed surfaces are produced in translucent shades of brown, blue, and green which have been thickly applied and allowed to run and blend with each other as they were fired giving the unusual mottled effect which is very tactile. In distinctive contrast, the neck has been decorated with a stylish tube lined collar of decoration which is in the form of stylised grapes and leaves which are coloured and glazed in stronger tones giving as a bold contrast.
