Ernestine Ceramics attributable 50s rare hand-painted majolica jug with citrus.
About the Item
Elegant majolica jug from the 1950s, hand-painted with a citrus subject on both sides, attributable to the production of Ernestine Ceramics Salerno, Italy.
This famous brand takes its name from the American decorator Ernestine Virden Cannon (1904-1969), who lived in Salerno after arriving there from the United States in the mid-1940s and where, thanks to a meeting with the architect Matteo D' Agostino (1905-1969), who belonged to a family of ceramics manufacturers, Ernestine Ceramiche was started in 1948.
Together they gave new impulse to Vietri's ceramic tradition by conquering foreign markets, especially in the United States, as early as the 1950s, and his creations are still sought-after collectibles today.
