About the Item

Wilhelm Kåge designed the Farsta series for Gustavsberg in the 1930s. The series was introduced in the late 1930s and continued into the 1940s and 1950s. The pieces were known for their robust, sculptural forms and unique glazes, combining stoneware with intricate surface treatments. This is a beautiful vase out of the series with a reticulating grid pattern and undulating glaze colors. Wilhelm Kåge (1889–1960) was a Swedish ceramic artist and designer, best known for his work at Gustavsberg, where he was artistic director from 1917 to 1949. His career spanned a broad range of styles, from early Art Nouveau and Swedish Grace to bold, modernist stoneware. Kåge played a key role in shaping Swedish modernist ceramics, blending artistic expression with industrial production. His experimental approach, especially with glazes and materials, paved the way for later Scandinavian design movements. His Farsta pieces are now some of the most sought-after works among collectors due to their rarity and artistic quality.
