Hugh West Large Raku Glazed Studio Pottery Anniversary Vase
About the Item
An exceptional, large and impressive Carnon Downs Pottery raku glazed vase with ribbed patterning made during the 25th anniversary by renowned potter Hugh West (British, b.1950) and dating from 1996. The tall bulbous shaped vase stands on a narrow flat round base and has a stepped shoulder with pinched neck and large wide trumpet shaped top with a cut and shaped rim. The body of the vase has a textured finish with vertical ribbing and is decorated in metallic fired glazes giving a variety of colors with strong elements of blue and browns particularly to the neck and top inside edge of the vase. The vase has molded makers marks to the edge of the neck along with and XXV mark used during anniversary year 1996. A stunning and impressive example and wonderful display piece.
Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market.
In good overall condition with a few very tiny glaze nicks which do not detract.
