Keith Murray - Moonstone Glaze Vase for Wedgwood, Model Number 3802 Circa 1935
About the Item
Keith Murray Moonstone Vase, by Wedgwood, Model Number 3802 Circa 1935
An Earthenware, "moonstone" glaze, globe vase with circular undulating ridged design and tall cylindrical neck.
Impressed and printed factory marks with Keith Murray signature to base.
Keith Murray's designs were renowned for their modern shapes with clear architectural overtones and matt glazes.
Circular or cylindrical pieces were hand-thrown before having Murray’s characteristic banded decoration added using an engine-turned lathe. The Queensware earthenware body used by Wedgwood suited Murray’s designs and the finished works were decorated with just a single colour, taken from the newly-developed range of glazes.
The collaboration between Murray and Wedgwood produced forms and colours that were to define the modern design of the 1930's.
