About the Item

Kjell Bolinder (Swedish, b.1942) was born in the Hoganas area in the south of Sweden and comes from a long line of ceramicists dating back to 1830. He started his own pottery at Hoganas in the 1960’s. He specialises in unique stoneware pottery in classical thrown forms with magnificent glazes and is renowned for his perfectionist and experimental nature. He is considered as the leading contemporary ceramicist in Sweden and his work is likened to that of Berndt Friberg. Kjell Bolinder’s work is represented in museums worldwide. A stunning and unique Swedish Hoganas studio pottery vase decorated in incredible manganese glazes by Kjell Bolinder (Swedish, b.1942) and dated 1992. The stoneware vase is of tall bulbous shape standing on a narrow round unglazed foot with recessed unglazed base. The vase has a narrow-pinched neck with a wide trumpet shaped top. The body of the vase is decorated brown and silver metallic manganese glazes with spotting patterns created in the firing. The vase is signed along with various other references to the base and is dated 1992. Provenance: from a choice collection of Scandinavian pottery amassed by a private gentleman who sadly now has insufficient space to display these fine pieces. Excellent condition with light wear associated with age and use.
