About the Item

An unusual and striking mid-century modern 1950s fat lava floor vase by the renowned West German pottery maker Jasba Keramik. The company was founded in 1926 by Jakob Schwaderlapp in Ransbach-Baumbach and until its end in the late 1970s, it was famous for producing a wide range of colorful and unusual art pottery pieces. This is their curvy, large model 1576/45 (see photo of base mark). Very typical for the 1950s when Cilli Wörsdörfer was the key designer at Jasba. She made several designs in the modernist fashion often with matte glazes and muted color palettes. This specific sample features a relief surface, finished first with a matte black glaze and then a soft, matte turquoise glaze. The middle section is embellished with a pattern of circles, also in relief. The inside has an orange/brown glaze. A sober yet interesting combination of cuves, colors and textures. An authentic 1950s item that still feels contemporary. In very good vintage condition. No chips, no cracks or glaze damages. No other flaws. A collector's item. Dimension: height 45 cm/ 17 3/4", max width 26 cm/ 10 1/4", diameter top 15.5 cm/ 6", diameter base 17.5 cm/ 6 3/4". Weight: 3841 g /8.5 lbs
