About the Item

We are offering for sale a truly glamorous mid-20th century modern ceramic vase. It is a globular spherical vase produced in East Germany during the 70s, but which recalls, in style and techniques used, ceramic styles from very distant parts of the world. The abstract decoration given by the intersection and overlapping of sea green and gun metal glaze drips recalls the Ikat of Central Asia; while the texture of the glazes and vitrification recalls Japanese ceramics made with the Raku technique. This vintage vase that alternates on its surface a rough and smooth texture at the same time, is part of the vast production of East German ceramics made with the technique called "Fat Lava". Although this ceramic technique was used to decorate a vast production of Pottery between the 60s and 70s, I assure you that you will rarely encounter such a fascinating article again. Intense colors combined in a stunning contrast, essential design animated to the touch by the alternation of textured and smooth surfaces. Truly a great product.
