About the Item

A large and stylish ash glazed studio pottery vase decorated with a stylized tree pattern by renowned potter Mike Dodd (British, b.1943) and dating from the latter 20th Century. The heavily made stoneware vase stands on a narrow round unglazed foot with a slightly recessed base and is of slight flattened shape with a narrow neck and bottle shaped top. The hand thrown vase is decorated to two sides with a stylised tree patter in a ‘finger wiped’ design decorated in matted tenmoku style glazes set against a contrasting brown glazed ground and with blue/white running glazes to the neck and running around the edges of the patterns and gathering around the base. The vase an impressed artist seal mark to the edge of the foot. Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market. In good overall condition with a couple of tiny natural air bubble bursts to the body of the glaze.
