Phil Rogers Studio Pottery Ash Glazed Vase with Foliate Designs
About the Item
A stylish Marston Pottery ash glazed stoneware studio pottery vase decorated with foliate designs by renowned potter Philip (Phil) Rogers (British, b.1951) dating from the latter 20th century. The heavily potted vase stands raised on a narrow round unglazed foot with recessed base with a tall bulbous body with a narrow pinched neck and a shaped flat rimmed top. The body of the vase is decorated with incised curved patterning and is applied to three sides with iron brushwork foliate designs applied vertically down the body of the vase. This is set against a light speckled grey glazed ground with similar patterned darker elements applied around the upper and lower body of the vase and to the inner vase. With an impressed potters personal seal mark to the lower edge of the foot.
Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market.
