Reflected ceramic goblet sculpture with a pastille decoration of abstract shapes, Pietro Melandri In 1925 Melandri's ceramics are at the Exposition des Arts Decoratives in Paris and in 1930 they arrive at the Triennale of Monza and at the Barcelona Expo. In 1931 he began his collaboration with Giò Ponti, for the interior decoration of ocean liners and villas in Lombardy. Ceramic vases by Melandri were acquired by Gabriele D'Annunzio, for the Stanza del Mascheraio, at the Vittoriale degli Italiani. In 1931 Focaccia sells the building where the factory is located and Melandri who, now the sole owner of the company, pays the rent to the new owner and from this moment on only makes innovative and experimental ceramics, abandoning the more commercial production. His mark becomes a goshawk, inscribed in a circle and with only the initial "M", or with the writing "P. Melandri Faenza ”. In 1932 the company was forced to close and Melandri continued its business by opening a house-atelier in via Salvolini in Faenza. In 1933 Melandri sent his ceramics to the 5th Milan Triennale and was awarded at the Milan Art Triennale in 1936. In these years Melandri started a fruitful collaboration with the architects Giò Ponti and Melchiorre Bega. The commissions followed one another in large numbers. Meanwhile, Melandri also matured as a sculptor. An example is undoubtedly the composition Modern Venus (1933) created for the Motta pastry shop in Milan, or the huge panel for the Milan Triennale in 1936, entitled Perseus and the Medusa. Thanks to this same work, in 1937 at the Universal Exposition in Paris, Melandri was judged as the most innovative of the Italian ceramists present in the exhibition and won the Official Grand Prize for Sculpture at the Decorative Arts Exhibition. He also receives the gold medal at the Gaetano Ballardini Prize in Faenza. In 1938, with the Vase of the Golden Rose and then in 1939 with the Angel announcing panel, he won first prize at the National Competition of Ceramics in Faenza. In the same year he created the architectural decoration the Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice for the Eliseo Theater in Rome. Between 1939 and 1940 he created the decoration for the Pasticceria Flamigni in Forlì. Between 1942 and 1943 he created the decoration for the Cassa di Risparmio di Imola and in 1942 the Baptism of Christ for the church of San Domenico in Faenza. In 1944, during a bombing, the Melandri factory suffered such damage that production was stopped.
