Pol Chambost Attributed Mid-Century Six Color Glazed Ceramic Beakers
About the Item
A very stylish and rare set mid-century ceramic color glazed beakers in a period wire stand attributed to Pol Chambost (French, 1906-1983). The beakers appear to be made from a red colored clay and are of conical shape standing on a flat round base. The bodies of the beakers are decorated in matt black glazes while the inner beakers have been glazed in various colors including red, yellow, white, green, pink and blue. The beakers are not marked however are reminiscent of the distinctive ceramic works we have handled by renowned French artist Pol Chambost (French, 1906-1983) combining matt black glazes with contrasting brightly colored monochrome glazes for which he was best known. The wire open basket shaped stand was original to the beakers when acquired by our client and is of similar period but probably did not start life together. The beakers may indeed have formed part of a set and supplied with a pitcher of similar design.
