About the Item
Contemporary Black Stoneware Ceramic Vessel by Rachel Peters, In Stock.
This vessel has been hand built from Course Vulcan Black Stoneware Clay using the traditional method of coiling. Refined and finished by hand to create a beautiful tactile surface. This piece is unglazed so is suitable for dry display only.
Inspired by the clean lines and natural materials of Danish design, Rachel seeks to create works that are both beautiful and calming. She finds harmony in soft forms, biomorphic shapes, and muted colours, allowing the materiality of the clay to shine through.
Originally from the UK, Rachel’s journey with clay began as a reawakening after a career in social work and a life-changing move to South Africa. Now based back in the UK, her studio is a sanctuary for exploration and self-expression.
‘Clay is my therapy, my meditation, my connection to the earth. It is a reminder that even in the chaos of life, there is beauty to be found in the simple act of creation.’
Hand-built through coiling, her vessels and sculptures are a testament to slow, meditative craftsmanship. Abstract biomorphic sculptures, reminiscent of organic forms or human figures. The focus is on form and texture – elegant shapes that need no decoration, adorned with the subtle nuances of grogged stoneware and a muted palette. Each piece is a tactile invitation to mindfulness and appreciation for the earth's raw beauty.
