Scheurich Mid-Century German Fat Lava Handled Art Pottery Vase
About the Item
A very stylish mid-century West German art pottery handled vase decorated in fat lava glazes by renowned makers Scheurich Keramik probably dating from the 1960’s. The tall ceramic vase is of rectangular shape with rounded edges standing on a oval unglazed flat foot with recessed base. The vase has a tapering shoulder with a round funnel shaped neck with a chimney shaped top rim and with a large loop handle applied to the side. The body of the vase is decorated in ‘fat lava’ glazes in red and black with circular swirl patterns of varying size applied hand applied to either side of the vase. The vase has black glazes applied to the interior with matt black glazes to the base and has molded marks 428-28 and W.GERMANY to the base. An impressive and stunning display piece.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
