About the Item

This Listing is for the Grouping of Three STACKED Fluted Vessels. All three vessels are identical in their overall shape, but vary in the number of flutes; Single-Flute, Double-Flute, and Triple-Flute. These vessels were made using reclaimed maple, salvaged from a variety of local Brooklyn wood shops. The wood's natural coloring shows off tones ranging from ivory and pale yellow including a smattering of some mid and dark brown ones. The beauty of Richard’s signature STACKED style is based entirely in the process. Each STACKED object he creates is built, sculpted, and finished entirely by hand. To the confusion of many, there is no lathe work involved for any of his pieces. Imagine an analog version of 3-D printing, or coil pottery. The desired profile is defined during the building process. Piece by individual piece, layer upon layer, he additively sculpts each form, controlling both the wall thickness as well as the profile. And, in this case, also controlling for the respective Flutes. Once constructed, Richard refined the exterior of the vessel using a variety of hand held tools, resulting in a finely honed quality with subtle undulations very similar to that of hand built ceramics.
