About the Item

A striking white amphora-form vase by Seguso Vetri d’Arte, produced in Italy during the 1980s and attributed to their bespoke collaborations for Karl Springer. Handblown in Murano, the vase presents a baluster-shaped body rising from a narrow, semi-polished circular foot, transitioning into a short neck and flared lip. Two delicately applied loop handles accent the shoulders, evoking classical antiquity while maintaining a sculptural simplicity. Executed in the Scavo technique—developed in Murano in the mid-20th century to mimic the weathered surfaces of archaeological glass—the finish was achieved by applying a mixture of ash and other mineral powders to the molten surface. Once cooled and lightly abraded, the result is a matte, lightly encrusted texture. In this example, the technique creates a luminous contrast between the bright white scavo and the semi-translucent body beneath, lending the vase both age and quiet brilliance. Standing 33 cm high with a diameter of 17 cm, the piece remains in good vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age, including one visible area of abrasion to the upper body.
