About the Item

The antique or vintage porcelain vase features high neck with thrice ribbed side in the lower section, accented with graphic detailing, done in thin, delicate porcelain. Elegant Art Deco form is decorated with white luster glaze, adding a reserved polychrome color variations to the piece; the rim is decorated with the thin black band, and the inner surfaces are done in monochromatic white glaze. The vase is marked on the bottom with impressed "Fachlehrer Veit" and 18, possibly the model number, as well as with green overglaze Zehscherzer mark, dating to 1918 - 1930. Striking vase with elegant form, high quality craftsmanship, and statement piece presence will make a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Modern, Transitional, Modern Country, Organic Modern, Art Deco, Arts and Crafts, Collected, or Contemporary. Zeh, Scherzer & Co was founded in 1880 in Bavaria, Germany; they produced a wide range of pieces, including coffee and tea sets, as well as decorative porcelain. The company opened its own art department in 1908, employing well-known designers, such as professor Franz Drexler, professor Heirmaier, Wilhelm Veit, Ischinger, Hertwig-Mohrenbach, Ferdinand Liebermann, teachers and students at Nuremberg and Munich Schools of Applied Arts, as well as professor Fritz Klee (who later became director of the 'Königliche Fachschule' in Selb), who was employed as artistic advisor. Some collectors believe that this was the greatest period of the company, resulting in some of the most beautiful pieces produced. By 1927, Zeh Scherzer had become one of Bavaria's largest export factories, employing around 1,000 people in two plants. The sculptor and modeler Wilhelm Veit was one of the main tutors at the senior technical college of the porcelain industry ("Fachschule für Porzellanindustrie") in Selb. He created many vase forms, as well as various animal figures for porcelain manufacturers in Bavaria region: Rosenthal, Zeh, Scherzer & Co., and Gräf & Krippner. Fratelli Fanciullacci Majolica Vase with Relief Decor, Italy Mid Century
By Fratelli Fanciullacci
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Unusual vintage majolica vase with complex glaze in dark Bordeau oxblood red and various shades of grey colors features bands of applied reliefs in shape of abstract, graphic flowers. Top and bottom parts of the vase and bands of relief decor are decorated with gold. Monochromatic white glaze was used on inner surfaces, accentuating the palest grey shades in the main glaze. The vase is signed on the bottom with model number and "Italy"; while it does not have the usual the manufacturer's mark, "FF", the glaze that was used for this series is well documented to Fratelli Fanciullacci. It was common for Italian ceramics manufacturers to omit marking their pieces with their logos if the they were intended for American or European distributors; instead, they would only mark it "Italy" to allow the distributor to use their stickers, or rarely, they would mark the piece with "studio tame" for "distributor name" if the distributor did not object. Pieces from this particular series were made by Fratelli Fanciullacci with their own mark, for Ebeling Reuss...
