About the Item

Antique late 19th century Victorian impressive solid silver hunting water jug, the body profusely decorated in relief with embossed hunting scenes, depicting horse riders and hounds chasing a deer. The side applied with a handle cast as two intertwined snakes, jug supported by a cast figure of a deer, standing on a tapering base and formed as a Duke’s coronet. Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), Birmingham, year 1897 (x), maker's mark E&CoLD (Elkington & Co Ltd). The firm Elkington & Co, founded in 1815, became very popular for pioneering the electroplating and gilding techniques. Measures: Height 35cm Width 23 x 16cm Weight: 1435g.
