About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Georgian English sterling silver quart mug; an addition to our range of wine and drinks related silverware collection This exceptional antique George III sterling silver mug has a baluster shaped form onto a circular spreading foot. The body of the mug is embellished with fine and impressive later chased fruiting vine decoration accented with grape clusters and incorporating a stylised leaf and scroll bordered cartouche. The cartouche bears the engraved presentation inscription '˜Won at the Swansea Regatta, 1st July 1830, by Sir H.Vivians Yacht The Paul Pry of 23 tons beating the Peterell of 29 Tons. The Winner of the Cup the Two preceding Years, the Champion of the Bristol Channel'. This impressive quart* mug is fitted with an impressive opposing scroll handle ornamented with a scrolling leaf decorated thumbpiece. The spreading foot is encircled with a band of chased stylised leaf decoration.
