Georgian Rummer Drinking Glass moulded & engraved, English Circa 1790
About the Item
This is a very good English "RUMMER" Drinking Glass, which were originally drinking glasses used in English taverns in the late 18th and early 19th century.
The glass is made from heavy lead glass, having a soft greyish colour. It has a large "ogee" shaped bowl which has moulded decoration in two bands around the top rim, one vertical and one cross hatched. Below this the bowl has further engraved decoration within vertical panels. The bowl leads to a stem with a knife knop to its top, above a short thick panel cut stem supported by a square lemon squeezer foot.. The square foot is more uncommon and a nice feature of this glass.
Overall a good late 18th century English rummer, circa 1790/ 1800.
