About the Item

A pair 18th Century Worcester Porcelain Shell Centrepieces, circa 1770, each modelled as six shells on a base of smaller shells and coral, painted with flower sprays within pink borders, topped with an Eagle with outstretched wings that acts as a lifting handle. These porcelain centrepieces were made at the Worcester porcelain factory around 1770 with hand painted decoration. Such pieces were made by other factories at the time but the palette of the painting is particularly distinctive. The large cracks in the base occurred when the piece was originally fired showing the difficulty in producing such pieces at the time. Each Centrepiece measures 20 cm (8") x 20 cm (8") x 20 cm (8")
